WHAT IS OPTIM DHALG?

Optim DHAlg is a food supplement rich in 100% plant-based DHA
DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid usually found in fatty fish. Optim DHAlg contains DHA from top quality microalgae (Schizochytrium sp.).

OMEGA-3 SOURCES

The three main omega-3s are ALA, EPA and DHA.

ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) is an omega-3 essential for the growth and proper functioning of cells. It is an essential omega-3 because it cannot be produced by the human body. It is found in some vegetable oils (linseed oil, rapeseed oil, walnut oil, chia oil…), in seeds (flax, pumpkin) and nuts.

EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) are precursors, especially lipid mediators that reduce inflammation. DHA is a ubiquitous component of cell membranes (brain, retina…). EPA and DHA are mainly found in fatty fish (sardines, anchovies, salmon…). Some microalgae such as Shizochytrium sp. contain high levels of DHA.

DHA is particularly abundant in the brain and eye membranes. For example, DHA constitutes 30 to 40% of the polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in the cerebral cortex. DHA is also present in the retina of the eye at concentrations up to 65%.
