Plant-based omega-3 DHA supplement from algae oil

Where does the omega-3 from algae oil come from? Why choose Omega-3 DHA from algae? What is the difference between algae oil and fish oil?

Where does the omega-3 from algae oil come from?

Omega-3 fatty acids from algae oil are produced by microalgae. Optim DHAlg oil is derived from the micro-algae Schizochytrium sp. which has the advantage of being a sustainable, 100% vegetable source that is grown outside of the oceans.

What are microalgae?

The term microalgae, sometimes called microphyte, refers to microscopic algae. The microalgae Schizochytrium sp. is a genus of unicellular eukaryotes in the family Thraustochytriaceae. It occurs naturally in coastal marine habitats.

Only microalgae are capable of the synthesis of EPA and DHA from plants. They are at the base of the entire food chain in the oceans and seas.

How are the Omega-3 and DHA from Optim DHAlg Algae Oil produced?

100% European production

Microalgae are fermented in bioreactors in Europe. The algae oil is then extracted from the micro-algae by means of an enzymatic extraction process and at a low temperature.

The crude oil contains a high percentage of the omega-3 fatty acid DHA. This process is environmentally friendly and does not use materials of marine origin.

The oil is then refined in France. It is stabilised by adding a mixture of antioxidants.

An excellent quality oil

The oil is produced from a natural source of DHA from Schizochytrium sp. algae, which is grown in a very strict and controlled environment.

Optim DHAlg algae oil has excellent stability due to the unique stabilization process with a blend of antioxidants. This process prevents the degradation of polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Why choose Omega-3 DHA from algae oil?

Omega-3 Algae Oil is sourced from the sustainable cultivation of micro algae. A 100% vegetable product, ideal for vegetarians, vegans or anyone looking for a high quality product.

What are the benefits of DHA?

According to the EFSA*, a daily intake of 250mg of DHA is equivalent to 1 capsule of Optim DHAlg:

- contributes to the normal functioning of the brain

- and, contributes to the maintenance of normal vision.

* Scientific opinion of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) establishing the recommendations on DHA intake applicable in Europe.

What is the difference between an omega-3 from algae oil and an omega-3 from fish oil?

Algae oil is produced outside the oceans. It is produced on land in bioreactors. In this way, the quality of the oils can be perfectly controlled.

The manufacturing process involves very few steps: cultivation, extraction, purification and stabilization.

On the other hand, fish oils, especially those containing more than 50% omega-3, are obtained after numerous purification and extraction stages. They are often obtained from fish caught in remote areas (Pacific Ocean, North Atlantic Ocean).
